Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera Review

My daughter turned 4 this past week, and for the first time in a long time I really had no idea as to what I should get her.  There are plenty of things she wants but most of them she does not need. I have grown tired of buying the pick of the week only to see her lose interest within hours.

Over the course of the summer, I have made  an effort to take Nick to various places where he can take photos. Of course little sister always wants to take photos too. Occassionally I will allow her to use the camera, but my nerves are left raw watching her in action. She has several toy cameras, but she is past being satisfied with pretend. I had considered buying her an inexpensive digital camera, but I have to wonder how quickly she will break it. Inexpensive becomes expensive when you have to buy the same thing over and over again.

I started looking for a digital camera made specifically for children, and I found many of them were coming up short on good reviews. The one camera that did seem to get quite a bit of praise was the Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera.  I am sure I don’t need to tell you which one I bought.

Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera Specs:

  • This product is a re-stage of the Kid-Tough Digital Camera J8028.
  • 1.6″ color LCD preview screen (WAS 1.3″) Dual-handle grips Two-eye view finder. Compatible with Mac - Comes with built-in auto flash, wrist strap, and Camera compatible with Windows 2000/ME/XP/VISTA and Macintosh
  • 1.3 interpolated Mega Pixels or 640 x 480 resolution for 4″ x 6″ prints (WAS just 640 x 480 resolution)
  • 8 MB built-in memory stores up to 60 pictures (depending on resolution) & USB cord for computer connection
  • SD memory card slot for increased storage capacity (SD card sold separately). Do not use “high speed” SD card or SD card with a capacity higher than 1GB
  • The camera is extremely easy for her to use. The two-eyed view finder is a wonderful kid friendly feature.  We changed out the SD card so she would have more memory. So far she has taken over 100 photos. The camera also came with PhotoShow software, which is a plus if you don’t already own photo editing  software.  Now for those of you who are taking pictures with something like a 7.2 MP Canon PowerShot, you are not going to be impressed with the resolution of this camera. Keep in mind that this is a camera made for children, and it has been built for the abuse children will give it.  My daughter’s camera has already met the floor several times, but the camera continues to work without error.

I am completely happy with my purchase. Now my daughter gets to feel like a big kid on our photo outings, she gets to see the end result of her efforts and it continues to work even after she gives it a beating.

    1. The quality of the photo from that Fisherprice camera is amazing! I didn’t think that they would be that decent. My kids are begging me to get them the current camera from little tikes but i may look at the fisherprice model based on your post.
