Shortly after Thanksgiving, Nick began taking piano lessons. Tuesday evening he had a lesson, but we could not find his piano book. I took him to his lesson anyways and hoped his teacher might find something else they could work on. His teacher taught him Row, Row, Row your Boat by ear, but today when I asked him to play it he couldn’t quite remember it. So my search began… I was googling when I came across G Major Music. They have a great selection of sheet music for the beginner piano player. Many of the pieces are numbered, which is great because I can’t read music
And of course it is free which makes it even better!

One of my first posts to this blog was regarding classical music for kids. While classical music may not be for everyone, I think all children should be exposed to classical music and ultimately decide where their passion lies. I do not profess to listen on a regular basis, but for me, classical music was always a wonderful companion when I am drawing, painting or writing poetry. It provides an inner calm and focus that is the basis for a meritable project.
My daughter is the music lover within our house. Recently she heard Habanero from Carmen , she has been singing it ever since ~ well, as much as a 4 year old can sing it ;) Because she loved hearing it soo much I decided I need to find it somewhere on the net. My virtual travels lead me to a blog called Higher Up and Further In. Lindafay, the blog’s author, recently published a post called The Opera. In it she provided links for Opera for Everyone. I was thrilled to find we could download Carmen, The Barber of Seville, Madame Butterfly and La Traviata.
During my music quest I also found a wonder site called Classics for Kids. Classics for Kids isn’t just a site to listen to classical music on. It also offer activities and games where kids can even compose their own music. If your interested in finding more classical music site visit my learning links page. Have a link you think I should add? Send me an e-mail or leave it in the comments and I will be happy to do so.

Are you a fan of classical music? In this rock-n-roll world we live in, some would say it is an acquired taste. There are some studies which suggest that classical music actually has the ability to make your child smarter. The results of these studies have come under great debate, because many believe the increased test scores students experienced after listening to classical music are in large due to an increased state of relaxation.
Other studies show that children who learn to read and play music have greater levels of achievement in school than those who do not. Ultimately, providing your child with a vast array of experiences is always beneficial. Where it may lead remains to be seen. In the meantime, you can give your child a taste of classical music without amassing a library of music that your child may be indifferent to.
